Laptop Video Card Upgrade
video / graphics card upgrade 4 laptop?
so a few questions, but none of you have to answer all of them.
i have a few games, but my graphics card is weak (128MB), so I’m trying to upgrade the graphics & RAM for less lag.
if you know any other methods / upgrades to lessen lag during gameplay, they would be greatly appreciated.

is it possible to change & upgrade a laptop’s video card at all? I really don’t want to have to get an external card.

I’m going to be geting a RAM upgrade from 0.5 GB, to 1.5 GB, will the motherboard / CPU let me dedicate more RAM to the graphics when i enter the BIOS screen? or do i have to do something a little more complex?
my laptop is the Compaq Presario v2000.
anything that will lessen the lag and / or let me play a game on more than just minimum graphics mode i would really like to hear, because it just sucks playing a game that never stops being choppy.

1. possibly. It’s a whole lot easier to upgrade a desktop pc than a laptop, since things are more standardized and there’s more physical space. If you have an nvidia or ati card, there’s a reasonable chance you can upgrade it. Call the manufacturer.
Don’t think there’s such a thing as an external graphics card.
2. if you don’t have an nvidia/ati card, and have an intel or “on board” card that you give your ram to, the games won’t run much faster.
the amount of ram on a graphics card is only a small part of the story. It’s more about their processing power and the features they support. graphics cards are kind of like mini computers all by themselves, just to process all the intense 3d graphics of your games. More ram will allow for nicer textures, but rendering 3d models and applying effects won’t really be affected by a ram upgrade.
by the sounds of things you just have a basic intel “card” that you’re going to be stuck with. This is the main drawback of laptops – gaming.
As for lessening lag (assuming you mean graphical slowdown, rather than bad ping/network connection), some graphics settings have more of an impact than others. anti aliasing and dynamic lighting are hard work on a graphics card, while things like world and character details aren’t so bad. Try increasing one value at a time (slow, I know, but you’ll learn what impacts performance and how to get the best graphics/frame rate combination)
