Laptop screen washed out?

My Sony laptop had been flickering for weeks. This was accompanied by a burning smell in the bottom corner of the screen. Then, it died completely. So, I had the screen replaced with a brand new one. Prior to the fix (when it was working properly), the screen was vibrant with great contrast. Now, the screen looks washed out by comparison. The blacks are not as black, the reds not as red, and so on. I checked the Nvidia settings (contrast, brightness, gamma, etc) as well as the VAIO control center settings (brightness, resolution) and they are exactly the same as they were before. I fiddled with the settings to see if I could recreate the deep blacks but to no avail. If the new screen is the same model as my old one (as the Sony repairman affirms), what could be the issue? Are there some settings that I missed that could have been changed?

If it is actually the same screen, did you ask if they replaced it with a refurbished part? Maybe the power consumption is different and the screen is not getting the power it needs? Is the graphic card truly enabled in your device manager or have you tried to adjust the digital vibrance on the card as well? Are all your driver’s up to date? There is a slew of reasons why this might be happening and hopefully Sony’s customer service works well with you to get you fixed. Good Luck!
