What’s a sound card? Is it an actual card in my laptop?

I use FL Studio 9 (a program used to create music) and it crackles and skips a lot. I researched it online and it said that I need a better sound card. Explain what that means! STEP-BY-STEP, PLEASE!

Laptop computers have a built in sound card and can not be upgraded, i suggest you run that program on a desktop with a good sound card you can buy from newegg.com
